Subject: Looking for any living relation of John Nisbet
My wife was formerley Norma Jean Nancy Nesbitt. Her great grandfather was James Nesbitt who married Sarah Ross in Keady Parish, County Armaugh in Northern Ireland. My wifes grandfather was Josiah Edwin Nesbitt. So far I have traced 4 other sons of James Nesbitt. They are William Henry. John Thomas and Richard Albert. William Henry and Josiah Edwin emigrated to the Woodstock, Stratford and London Ontario Canada in the 1880 - 1900 period. From their birth dates, there must have been other offspring of James Nesbitt. James Nesbitts father was William Nesbitt.
Any further help in researching this branch of the Nesbitts would be greatly appreciated.

Would like to correspond with anyone who has Nesbitt ancestors who resided in northwest Georgia from the 1830-40 time period to present. Census records indicate that this family group came to Georgia from South Carolina, and the spelling changes from NESBIT to NESBITT on different census reports. Here's my family group; all children born in Georgia. Father JOHN B. NESBITT, b. 1810 in SC, mother MARGARET C. NESBITT, b. 1838 in SC. Children: HENRY C. NESBITT, b. 1860; SAMUEL H. NESBITT, b. 1861; IDA NESBITT, b. 1866; ADA NESBITT, b. 1868; JOHN C. NESBITT, b. 1867; and MARTHY (Martha?) P. NESBITT, b. 1872. Family resided in present-day Gordon County, once part of Cherokee territory. Possible brothers of JOHN B. NESBITT may have been WILLIAM A. NESBITT, b. 1807 in SC (wife Elizabeth, daughter Harriet E., b. 1860) and JAMES S. NESBITT, b. 1813 in SC (wife CELIA, children: Mary A., Catherine, Margaret, John, twins William & Robert, and twins Henry &

James David Nesbitt should have left Ireland, we think County Down, around the 1840 to 1860 period and settled in Ontario Canada around Minden in Haliburton county. Had a son James David Nesbitt and in turn a grandson James David Nesbitt, each of which had lots of brothers and sisters.
If this rings any bells I would appreciate hearing from you.

Name: John B. Nisbet, III Email Address: email@example.com
I am the fifth generation Nisbet from Jacksonville, Alabama. My family settled in Jacksonville around 1830. I can easily trace my roots back to a John Nisbet who came to Jacksonville from Georgia. I am looking for information to link my ancestors to John Nisbet of Hardhill.
My line starts with John Nisbet buried in Thiritara (sp?) Presbyterian church in Salisbury, NC. One of his sons was my ancestor, Thomas Nisbet. There is some dispute as to who are the children of John Nisbet (1755) because his will lists several children but does not list an Alexander Nisbet. Thomas Nisbet was the father of John Nisbet (who came to Jacksonville). I have originals of "Scots Worthies" by Hume (which discusses Nisbet of Hardhill) and originals of Nisbet the Herald's books (unfortunately, the Herald's books are the wrong side of the family).
I am seeking information concerning the children of Nisbet of Hardhill, particularly James. I think that James Nisbet

Hello from Greg Nesbitt. L.V. Nevada.
Have been using the N/N web info to find out more about my Great Great Grandfather Joseph Nesbitt who left Northern Ireland for Quebec City, Can. in 1831 where he married Martha Newell also of N. Ireland. Trying to determine which branch of the Nesbitt Clan he was from and if his parents were born in Ireland or Scotland and when their parents moved to N. Ireland from Scotland.

My 3 times great Grandfather Hugh Nesbitt came from Ireland(via Scotland)to Augusta, GA in 1789. His youngest son, Thomas was my 2 times Great Grandfather. He had 2 brothers Hugh & John who went to Paris to further their education around 1840. Thomas became a Planter. John died in Paris & his body was smuggled back (sailors were superstitious about hauling the dead) by Hugh. Family history lore says we are decended from a John Nisbet (called the Martyer of Hardhill) who reportedly was hanged along with about a dozen other Presbytrians who refused to convert to the Church of England (Anglican?). Anyone else with info on that John Nisbet? I have many of the original letters written by John & Hugh Nesbitt from Paris to their Mother Eleanor O'Keefe Nesbitt at Augusta in 1841-42.

I'm very impressed by the parish registers. I was checking my mothers tree (which was documented back to Thomas Nisbit & Janet Sinclair m 1746 in Cambuslang). All of the detail was there and matched the family records very accurately with a few additions. It sure beat looking around Cambuslang itself!

I am engaged to be married and recently went up to Scotland for my fiance's grandmother's 80th birthday party. Although the family surname is Haywood, she told me that they had traced the family back to a lady in Antigua 3 generations back who was called Nisbet. She had a son who was baptised Samuel Haywood Nisbet, but for some reason when she moved to Scotland she changed his name to Samuel Nisbet Haywood. Father not known - presume he was a Haywood. Keen to trace back further. Any clues?

An ancestor had the town of Nesbit [Missippi] named for him. All Illinois Central trains on the Memphis-New Orleans run used to stop there...Later some stopped. Then they just blew as they came through. Nesbit is in a renaissance of sorts now. Old Nesbit/Johnston grave yard is nearby close to Bright's Corner.

I married into the Nesbitt family in central Wis. I have found Nesbitt's all over the U.S. Amazed at how many there are. Enjoyed this web sight. If anyone is interested in the Nesbitt family from central Wisc., you can e-mail me and I will try and answer your questions. From what I was told there were two brothers who went to Central Wisc. from Ireland. One stayed in central Wisc. and the other went South. They never said if it was southern Wisc. or southern U.S. The brother that stayed in central Wis. had eleven boys. They moved all over the U.S. From what I know all have passed away. Some had no children. Some many. Would be willing to help someone in anyway I can.
