My father was Bert Emerson Nesbitt son of Archie Lee Nesbitt (1885 - 1947). Archie's married Mildred Francher (son: Richard Edison Nesbitt b. 1908; Richard married Elizabeth Prossier; kids: Billy, Betty and Patty; Archie's 2nd wife: Jessie Gertrude Winans (kids: Henry, Rosalie, Dorene, Archie, and Bert). Josiah Nesbitt (1855 - 1909) was Archie's father. Josiah's wife was Orpha Rebecca Robinson; their kids: George Lewis, Melvin, Irene, Doris, and of course, Archie. Josiah's parents: John Nesbitt and Jane Moffet(sp?). We believe they left Ireland for Scotland, then to the US. Their arrival date in the US is unknown. "Our" Nesbitts wandered through Illinois, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Somewhere we're connected to the actress Kathleen Nesbitt--but records are lost. I am also part of the Nesbitt family. My grandfather was Clarence Leon Nesbitt born in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born 12/4/1902 and passed away in San Francisco on October 24, 1936 and is buried at Mt. Olivet in Colma. He was married to Myrtle Jean Henley. Clarence's parents were William C. Nesbitt from Tennessee and Maude Stroud of Tennessee. Myrtle and Clarence had 2 children, Clarence Leon Nesbitt (my uncle)still active at 78 years old and my mother Dorothy Jeanne who passed away in 1995. I have found no information of the legacy yet. Still doing the research thing.

My great grandmother was Susan Emily Nesbitt. Born about 1840. Some conflict as to if she was born in SC or MS but most agree MS. She was married to William Ples Williams in MS. She is supposed to be buried in Athens, TX. They had 9 children, Harriet jane, George Washington, Jhon Alis, Dora Lee, Susan Rebecca, Thomas Williams, Nora (my grandmother), Flora who is suppose to be Noras twin but I am not sure and Jim. Their son, John James Nesbitt, DOB 9/10/1840 in Durham, Ontario. The family then immigrated to Greene Co., Iowa. My grandfather, Melville Lyle Nesbitt, was born there in 1965. Hi, I'm the youngest of 5 sons born in Scarborough, N. Yorkshire. Our old Dad was Oswald Nisbet (b. 1904) in Dunfirmline. We as far as we knew were the only N.s in our seaside town. Excepting one lot of Nesbitts. We thought wenwere rare. A shock then to find a world society of (us?) you. My father had two sisters Charlotte (Lottie) and Margaret (Peggy). I think there was a set tradition on naming children in Scotland? How does the villages of Nisbet and Nesbitt fit into the scheme of things? Dads' family moved to London circa 1910. I've often wondered why as his Dad, George, was a coalminer. Early days then know doubt you will hear from me again. Hello from Southern Illinois. I am glad I stumbled upon this site. I have learned a lot so far. I am more perplexed than ever, now I am wondering if my Nesbit side is Scotch or Irish. Oh well, still the same individual regardless. Still, I am glad so many are coming forward, I still know little about how the Nesbit family made it to St. Louis. I am eager to learn more. I am the the great-great-grand daughter of Matthew Nisbet, who arrived in northern Illinois from near Glasgow (there's a rumor that he lived in the village of Nisbet) in about 1840. I married into the Nisbett family so am not a relative but my two girls are. My father-in-law was Harry Nisbett. His father was also Harry Nisbet (with one T as he was from Scotland). My g grandfather Gibson R Nesbitt was born about 1847 in Cabarrus Co NC. He served in the 52nd NC Inf Co "A" in the civil war. His brother's name was William O Nesbitt Jr. His father was born in Iredell Co, NC and was named William O Nesbitt Sr. He was supposedly killed in a train collision in 1865. My Great Grand Father - George Nisbet came from Edinburgh - our record of his birth date is 25/09/1864 which I can't trace in any records, which prevents me from going back any further. He came to South Africa in the period of 1890 to 1896 were he met and married my Great Grand Mother and had two sons George Robert Nisbet (My Grand Father) and a second son David John Nisbet, who died before twenty years of age due to burns. My Grand father (Gerorge Robert Nisbet) went to live in Rhodesia in 1926 and died there in 1950. He had three sons David Nisbet, my father George Allen Peter Nisbet, followed by two daughters Barbara and Stella and finally a son Cedric Nisbet. It is some time since I last visited your site and have enjoyed it once again. I live in Kempton Park South Africa. There are other Nisbet families around Johannesburg.

In search of the parents of Thomas Nesbit, my g-g-g-grandfather, I have been visiting all the websites I can find, and I am quite impressed with the amount of information available. Thomas Nesbit was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania on 10 Apr 1769, moved to Kentucky when very young, was married to Constance Bennington 15 Dec 1790 in Bourbon Co. In 1825 they, and many of their family, moved to Monroe County, Indiana, where Thomas died 12 Sep 1861.

I am the widow of Thomas Stewart Nisbet, Jr., born in Swift Current, Sk., in l923 to Thomas Stewart Nisbet,Sr., and Jeannie Anderson. T.S.N. Sr. was born in Scotland and as a young lad was taken to Burton on Trent by his parents; there his father worked for a brewery. He emigrated to Western Canada with his brother. Later his mother, and brothers James & Hugh joined him. The family name Rintoul is an important link and I found a Jean Rintoul circa l849 who apparently was the forerunner of this name. According to census records and a death certificate, my gg grandmother was Mary Nesbitt born in Ireland. She was married to John Anderson born in KY; marriage site unknown. By 1844 they are living in Indiana where my ggrandmother Sarah Anderson was born. Sarah was married in Monroe County IN 1863 to John B Floyd. Her parents are not on the 1860 census for Monroe County. I am searching for information regarding John Reid NISBET (b. Edinburgh, Scotland - 8 Dec 1909) and William Begbie NISBET (b. Edinburgh, Scotland - 3 Feb 1913). John and William were sent to Australia as teenagers in the 1920s. Their father, Robert NISBET, served in the Royal Field Artillery during W.W.I and was killed in France, 23 Mar 1918. I have no information regarding the fate of their mother, Elizabeth Mill TAYLOR. I believe that the mother's family arranged for the boys to be sent to Australia, where they at one time lived or worked on a sheep station. Any information regarding John or William, or their descendants, will be greatly appreciated.
