Subject: John Innes Nisbet

Changed my email address a few years ago but I am still looking for info on John Innes Nisbet, murdered near Morpeth in 1910. He was married to the former Cicely Waterston.
Thank you
Kevin Danby

There is an entry from me on 2-9-99 that I was notified by son, Steve Nisbet, who lives in Minneapolis, about this site. My e-mail address has changed since then.
An entry by Steve Nisbet, on 2-5-99, indicating he is a descendant (great great grandson) of Alexander Robinson Nisbet, of San Angelo, TX. I had an uncle named John Lee Nisbet (Second oldest son of Alexander Robinson Nisbet). A.R. Nisbet had 5 sons, Calvin (my grandfather), John Lee, Carl, Walker, and Alex. I am forwarding this info to Scott Nisbet, son of Carl Nisbet.

I am always interested in my family history. We are the Nesbitts from Cedar Creek, Dickson County, Tennessee. Our family still lives on part of the original land granted to them. Our family cemetery dated back to the 1700's.

I am searching for any ancestors/descendants of:
John Nisbet b c1833 Larnarkshire m Christina Smith b c1833 Canada, in 1857 Dumbarton, Scotland. They immigrated to New Zealand between July 1857 & October 1858 & settled in Porewa, Rangitikei, having lived in Papawai and the Hutt Valley.
They had 9 surviving children:
John Hugh never married, Arthur m Agnes Fraser, Margaret m Edward Gray, Helen Stewart never married, Peter m Henrietta Wright, Mary Burrett never married, Elizabeth never married, Jane never married and Lilias Smith m Percy Sampson.
John’s brother, Arthur also emigrated about 20 years after John to New Zealand and never married.
I have found Johns parents and siblings in the Scottish 1841 Census but they seemed to have vanished after that date. John is the only one I could find in the 1851 Census.
The missing family is: John, wife Margaret, Christina, Elizabeth, Margaret(or Maryanne)and Arthur.

You have a very informative site - so much work has been put into it. Thanks.

Joseph Henry Nisbet and Amallie Deloney Nisbet were my great-great grandparents. I've always heard that when Sherman burned their home, Joseph took his printing press, family silver and wife's portrait into the swamp. Later the children argued over the portrait. It must have been very fine. I would love a photo of it and any family info. Do any of my distant Georgia cousins know the paintings whereabouts? I would dearly love to hear from you.
